SaaS SEO Case Study: 0 to 3M Traffic in 2 Years

In this SaaS SEO case study, I will tell you how I managed to build a strong SaaS company from scratch in a couple of years by:

  • Driving 3 million visitors
  • 38 million impressions
  • $100k worth of search traffic
  • Almost 18k keywords indexed and ranked
  • $100k worth of search traffic

Expectations

Initially, the client set these goals:

  1. 100k organic traffic in the first year
  2. 300k website traffic the next year
  3. Web optimization for better user experience, crawlability, and brand awareness
  4. Prioritizing landing pages in SEO approaches
  5. A content marketing strategy with topical coverage
  6. Authority link building using high-value backlinks

In short, a complete SEO solution.

Our Customized SaaS SEO Strategy

I love to take on risky challenges. So do my teammates. That’s why we took a unique SEO approach for this SaaS startup. Here are all the details.

Quality Content Creation

At first, I focused on fixing the content part. I saw the blog section had very generic articles with low-quality images. So, I assigned my writing team to write fresh articles.

I also did keyword clustering, mapping, restructuring, categorizing, etc. with the old posts.

Next, for the new articles, I took both high and low-competitive keywords with a proper strategy and ratio of intents.

Because of this, more than 2k keywords are in the top 3 positions now.

Proper Link Building

In this project, I used my outreach team’s cumulative experience and reached authority sites. We also negotiated for link insertion

We observed from where competitors were gaining link juice. We targeted those referral domains and reached them with better proposals.

The ratio of lost referral domains was near to zero.

Complete Technical SEO

I fixed issues with the sitemap XML, 404 errors, schema, etc. The focus was on increasing crawlability in any search engine. Nonetheless, user experience also matters in the technical SEO. I mainly followed GTMetrix. And fixed load time and other speed issues to make every page responsive.

Huge Investment

As said earlier, the client didn’t know how much to spend or where to spend. As time passed by, I showed them how their competitors were spending and what positive results they were gaining.

So, they agreed to invest as much as I wanted them to. Most of the investments were spent on link building and SEO.

Clever On-Page SEO Strategy

I decorated the landing pages properly first, as I used landing page links as anchors in the guest posts.

I also fixed metadata, headings, and CTA buttons so that visitors referred to the site click and make purchases.

Another important thing that most SEO guys ignore is topical mapping. Mapping helped the site a lot to gain more credibility.

Url links that seemed very long were also shortened during this period. Whenever I perform On-page optimization, I always collaborate with the content team to make sure keywords and content structures are maintained properly.

Solid Internal Linking

I gave extra time in interlinking just like I did for guestposts.

Multilingual SEO

The service wasn’t limited to any specific country. It gave us a scope to SEO in other languages. We prioritized Spanish, Portuguese, and French-speaking regions in international SEO

I started it in the second year of the project. I hired some translators in my team to let them write guest posts and blog articles in natural tones. I personally took the job of finding keywords of different languages for blog writing and link building.

Regular Updates

I kept sending the performance of every page separately every week. I also kept a close eye on what new domains were giving referrals to our competitors.

The Result Was More Than I Expected

According to the last audit report:

  • 4 million organic traffic by the end of December 2024
  • More than 60 million total impressions
  • Ranked in 17.9K keywords
  • Almost 700k monthly traffic, 500% more than the time I started the project
